Erling Haaland had to cover his face after seeing teammate Mateu Morey suffer one of the worst injuries in recent times.

Borussia Dortmund made easy work of Holstein Kiel in the DFB-Pokal semi-final, winning 5-0 courtesy of first half goals from Giovanni Reyna (2), Marco Reus, Thorgan Hazard and Jude Bellingham.

But in the second half, just 12 minutes after coming on as a substitute, defender Morey suffered a truly horrendous injury as he stretched for the ball.

The 21-year-old over extended and his leg, having got stuck in turf, ended up bending in grim fashion before he lay in agony on the pitch.

After sustained what appeared to be a serious knee injury, Morey was stretchered off and replaced by Thomas Meunier.

The cameras panned to star striker Haaland, who was watching the game from the stands after being ruled out through a slight muscular problem.

The Norwegian was in visible distress and had his head in his hands as he saw his colleague suffer an injury that looks set to put him on the sidelines for a long period of time.

Despite the result, manager Edin Terzic felt the injury to Morey overshadowed the big win for Dortmund.

"Of course we're happy about the result. And it was a perfect evening until the 75th minute. But the injury to Mateu Morey leaves a cloud over everything," Terzic said post-match, as per Buli News.

"Knowing what a fantastic boy he is, it hurts all the more. He's on his way to hospital. We hope to know a bit more tomorrow."
