Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland has suggested it is "comical" that he snubbed a move to Manchester United over money.

The 19-year-old Norwegian wonderkid arrived at the German club last month after he completed his stunning £17.1m move from Red Bull Salzburg.

But Haaland was heavily linked with the Red Devils in January and has a history with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back to their days at Molde.

The Norway international praised his former boss and admitted he was very "important for me" in his career success.

"Ole has been very important for me in getting to where I am today," he told Norwegian TV channel Viasport.

"But we concluded that Dortmund was the best option for me."

United reportedly wouldn't meet the former RB Salzburg striker's wage demands, but Haaland has since denied that claim and slammed it as "comical."

He said: "No, it's the guys writing would have to speak to that.

"They'll have to explain it to me if they meet me. It's not my focus, whatsoever.

"It's kind of comical if I were to get that label. All the people closest to me know that's not the kind of person I am."

Haaland has been in scintillating form this season and carried over his fine goalscoring exploits to Dortmund.

The Dortmund striker has made five appearances for his new employers and scored an impressive eight times.

Haaland, who recently claimed he isn't at 100 per cent fitness, praised the role of super-agent Mino Raiola in landing his deal at the German club.

"He's the best in the world at what he does, as simple as that. He's the best agent," he said.

"He gets a lot of negativity, and that's probably because he's doing such a great job for those he's working for.

"He has helped a lot and he's a good guy to have around."
