Eric Cantona has offered his take on Neymar's decision to leave Barcelona for PSG, and he's not held back.

The 25-year old moved to the French capital in a world-record £198 million and has scored 11 goals in 12 games in his new surroundings, with PSG four points clear at the top of Ligue One and easily qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages following a perfect record.

But Cantona, like a number of your average football fans, has questioned Neymar's ambition in moving to Ligue One in the prime of his career.

The Manchester United legend said the following to Yahoo Sport, via Four Four Two:

"When you are 25-years-old and play for Brazil and Barcelona you wonder a little why he has come to France, to play against Guingamp or Amiens.

"The Champions League? It's maximum 10 matches in the season. I do not understand why he came to play in France. It's not my vision of passion and football."

Ooooooof. Cantona has gone in big-time there and one would expect Neymar to be asked about his comments in due course.

Technically, he has already offered an explanation for making the switch though, telling a mascot prior to Brazil's 0-0 draw with England on Tuesday.

As Neymar walked out with his Brazilian teammates, he soon approached the young mascots and perhaps to their surprise, the 25-year-old then began chatting with several of them.

One mascot then asked the world's most expensive player why he decided to move to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer and his reaction is priceless:

To his credit, the Brazilian gave an honest answer as the two teams prepared to go toe-to-toe. "To make the French league the best." Neymar told the mascot.

His answer is perhaps a little ambitious considering the huge following of La Liga and the Premier League, but the fact that both Kylian Mbappe and Neymar signed for the Ligue 1 side shows great promise.
