England finally defeated Germany in an major international tournament, with second-half goals from Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane delivering a memorable win for the Three Lions at Wembley.

The round of 16 fixture was tense and cagey as expected but Manchester City star Sterling stepped up to the mark once again with the opener - his third goal in four games - in the 75th minute.

A lovely flowing team move saw substitute Jack Grealish feed Luke Shaw down the left and he put the ball on a plate for Sterling to tap home and send 45,000 fans into utter pandemonium.

Having been criticised yet again for his performance, Harry Kane then sealed the win with his first goal of the tournament - a superb header past Manuel Neuer from a perfect Grealish pick-out.

The victory comes 25 years after England lost the Euro 96 semi-final to their long-time rivals, with today's triumph redemption of sorts for Gareth Southgate after his infamous penalty miss.

England, who are still yet to concede a goal in Euro 2020, will now play either Sweden and Ukraine in the quarter-finals in Rome's Stadio Olimpico on Saturday.
