And Cavani, who was a deadline-day signing for the Red Devils, was dismissed late into the second half for his shock challenge in Uruguay's 2-0 defeat.
The 33-year-old Uruguay international's efforts to stop Richarlison ended with him catching his shins with his studs in a reckless tackle.
VAR was called into action and the referee would later bump up the initial yellow card to a straight red for Cavani.
Arthur and Richarlison scored against Uruguay in the first half to strengthen Brazil's hopes of World Cup qualification.
Brazil are currently top of South America's World Cup qualifying table after five matches, while Uruguay are currently fifth and are level on points with Paraguay.
The top four teams in the table will secure automatic qualification for the World Cup in Qatar in 2022 while fifth place will enter into the playoff stage.
The 26-year-old Portuguese midfielder told reporters: "[I set up Cavani because] for a striker it is important to score for his confidence, he will be important for us and the first goal will give him confidence.
"I don't need to think about a hat-trick, I need to think about the future."
United will return to Premier League action on Saturday when they host West Brom at Old Trafford.
