Roma striker Edin Dzeko will surely have a lengthy ban coming his way after appearing to spit at the referee in the 7-1 thrashing at the hands of Fiorentina tonight.

With the Giallorossi 4-1 down in the Coppa Italia tie, Dzeko was unhappy with a decision and proceeded to spit in his direction in a truly disgusting act. The referee promptly displayed the red card, but Dzeko also appeared to spit a second time shortly after.

Footage of the Bosnian's vile conduct soon surfaced online and it really does not reflect well on the former Manchester City striker.

Dzeko is the second disgraced player playing in Italy to spit in a game of football this season.

Back in September, Juventus winger Douglas Costa completely lost the plot in the 2-1 win over Sassuolo, elbowing and raising his head to opposition winger Federico Di Francesco right in front of the referee, before spitting in the 24-year old's mouth in a truly shameful act.

With help from VAR, Costa was rightly shown a red card by the referee and later received a four-game ban for his conduct.

But given Dzeko has done it to a match official, his punishment could well be a lot more severe.
