EA Sports have provided an explanation as to why Mason Greenwood still hasn't got a proper face in FIFA 21.

Even with increased detail on the next-gen version of the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X that was released in December, Greenwood's face still doesn't look anything like him.

The 19-year-old is one of the most exciting prospects in world football, playing for one of the world's biggest clubs, and yet he still doesn't even for an official face.

To make matters worse, pop star Dua Lipa got one before him after she was added to the VOLTA football mode on the game.

It's been a major source of frustration for FIFA enthusiasts and there has been plenty of speculating as to why Greenwood looks very generic and his United teammates do not.

However it isn't a licensing issue, EA say the COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on their access.

"Due to the current global pandemic, unfortunately we haven't been able to visit the training ground this year due to club restrictions on external party access," an EA Spokesperson told the Manchester Evening News.

"We were able to capture Brandon Williams' head scan during a visit to Carrington in February 2020 but Mason was unavailable to attend this session."

It looks unlikely that Greenwood will be scanned for FIFA 21 and so fans might have to wait until the next edition of the franchise for him to be have his an actual likeness.

The pandemic caused a delay in Leeds United's Elland Road being added into the game for its launch in October.

But fans were happy to see Eastpoint Arena was replaced by the official stadium in January, proving that it's definitely "better late than never".
