A Dutch amateur team received an incredible reception from their fans after heading out to training under pitch-black skies at 5am.

Current Covid-19 restrictions in the Netherlands mean that amateur sides cannot train between 5pm and 5am, so the KVV Quick Boys squad were forced to make a very early start.

No doubt there would have been a few bleary eyes at the time, but that changed when the players saw the welcome which awaited them.

Fans set off flares and fireworks to add a vibrant colour of red to the dark winter sky, as the players looked on in amazement.

The club's Twitter account proudly posted the video footage, with the following caption which has been roughly translated from Dutch into English: "Supporters are also at the training session at 5 in the morning! Mega, boys!"

Another picture-based tweet was shortly afterwards, showing the players applauding their supporters, alongside an image of a clock and one of the boxes that included some of the fireworks and flares.

It caused quite a stir on social media, as a response from the first tweet in Dutch read: "Truly amazing from the fans. Big respect."

Meanwhile, others added: "Unbelievable! Respect," and "Awesome."

KVV Quick Boys are based in the Dutch seaside resort of Katwijk aan Zee and play their home games at Sportpark Nieuw Zuid, which has an 8,000 capacity.

The club is run by volunteers and is one of the most successful amateur sides in the country, with former Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt starting and ending his career there.

They celebrated their 100th anniversary last year, after being founded on 1st February 2020. The club currently has more than 2,350 members.

Their next game is away at Young FC Volendam on Saturday.
