Duncan Ferguson's decision to wear an Everton sweatband with his suit on the touchline is a brave fashion choice but there's a wholesome reason the Scotsman does so.

He would always do it as a player during his successful career on the pitch at Goodison Park and now in his role as interim boss, Ferguson has revealed he was given a sweatband by a sick child at a hospital and wears the accessory to reaffirm his identity.

"I'm proud of my identity," Ferguson told Sky Sports.

"The sweatband came from a sick kid who many, many years ago presented me with this sweatband when I went to one of the local hospitals.

'So I put the sweatband on. Of course, it's not the same sweatband, but after every season, I would walk around the pitch and give it to one of the children in the disabled chairs. Now I've got to get a new sweatband every week! So I'm proud of my identity."

The former Rangers striker wears the band on his left arm and then on his right, he has been sporting Howard Kendall's watch after the late former Toffees boss' daughter handed it to him.

Ferguson said wearing it against Chelsea in the 3-1 win at Goodison was "a beautiful moment".

The 47-year old had fans in hysterics this afternoon in the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford as he stood there without his suit jacket on, instead getting absolutely soaked in his shirt.
