Dirk Kuyt has come out of retirement to help Quick Boys, the amateur team he played for in the early days of his career.

The 37-year old Dutchman retired from the game at the end of the 2016/17 campaign, bowing out in the most perfect way possible by scoring the hat-trick that delivered the Eredivisie title to his beloved Feyenoord.

It's been confirmed that the Liverpool legend will coach Feyenoord's Under 19's side as of next season but it seems as though he's got a little unfinished business on the pitch before then.

Kuyt had been serving as assistant manager to Quick Boys following his retirement but he's now registered as a player for the Katwijk-based side and will be available for selection for their remaining games - starting with the game against Groningen II this weekend.

What an absolute bloke. Playing for the most successful amateur team in the Netherlands will help Kuyt with his preparation for his star-studded testimonial on May 27 May.

According to De Telegraaf, Thomas Buffel, Patrick Lodewijks, Rick Karsdorp, Salomon Kalou and Giovanni van Bronckhorst - the latter of which Kuyt played with and then played under at Feyenoord, are all in the mix for big send-off.

Jerzy Dudek, Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard from Liverpool are all expected to feature, while there's even talk that Luis Suarez, who linked up well with Kuyt during his time at Anfield, could be involved.

If that's not enough, his former Holland buddies, Rafael van der Vaart, Wesley Sneijder, Nigel de Jong, Arjen Robben, Edwin van der Sar, Frank de Boer and Phillip Cocu are all poised to be turning up.
