Chelsea may be fresh off a Premier League defeat to title rivals Manchester City, though that fixture preceded one of the greatest performances by an English side in the Champions League.

And the display churned out that night has been hailed by the opposition manager.

Before Chelsea hosted City in the league, Antonio Conte took his charges to Spain to face their hardest game of the Champions League Group Stage: Atletico Madrid away.

The Blues came from behind to beat the La Liga giants, courtesy of a last-minute winner from Michy Batshuayi.

A week removed from the game, Diego Simeone recalls the European clash by admitting his side couldn't cope with Chelsea's tactics, and even going as far as saying he's never faced a team like it.

"We had never faced a team with the intensity of Chelsea," Simeone told Cadena Sar via Evening Standard.

Despite taking the lead through a penalty, the Argentine coach couldn't counter Chelsea's intense pressing.

"We struggled to press them effectively. We improved when (Antoine) Griezmann went on (Tiemoue) Bakayoko and left David Luiz free. But we were imprecise."

He also goes on to add that the English clubs flying the flag for the Premier League have improved significantly.

"The English teams have improved so it's much more open. There is less margin for error now," Simeone added.

Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Spurs all maintained their 100% start in the Champions League following victory in the second round of Group Stage games, while Liverpool have drawn their opening two matches.

Their European venture continues in two weeks time.
