Manchester United target Diego Godin has reportedly passed a medical at Inter ahead of joining the Serie A team in the summer, according to Sky Sport Italia's Gianluca di Marzio.

The Atletico Madrid defender has been on the Reds' radar for some time as they look to strengthen their defensive options. At 32 years-old, Godin has been pivotal towards Atletico's La Liga success in the past years.

Diego Simeone's side have one of the best clean sheet records in the league and have only conceded 13 in 20 games, the lowest of all.

But Atletico have a policy in place that means any player over 30 won't be offered any more than a one year extension.

Spanish radio station Diario AS claim the Uruguayan will join Inter on a two-year deal with the option to extend to a third, worth an annual wage of €5.5m.

This news will frustrate United fans who have seen their team linked to the centre-half for over a year.

The Reds' season has turned for the better after Jose Mourinho was sacked in December. Interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has won every game since.

Other United defensive targets include Serie A centre-backs Kalidou Koulibaly and Kostas Manolas - as well as versatile Atleti' defender Lucas Hernandez.
