Derby County defender Andre Wisdom is receiving treatment in hospital after being stabbed in Liverpool over the weekend.

After playing in Derby's 2-1 win over Reading on Saturday, Wisdom drove up to Merseyside and specifically the Toxteth/Wavertree area to pick up a relative, as per the BBC.

As he got out of his car to pick up the family member, the 27-year old was stabbed multiple times in an "unprovoked assault and robbery".

Derby confirmed the formerLiverpool defender "sustained injuries which resulted in him being admitted to hospital, where he is in a stable condition" and added they will "focus its efforts on supporting Andre and his family".

Wisdom continues to receive treatment for injuries as Merseyside Police investigate the stabbing. He will now likely miss Derby's next two games against Preston North End and rivals Nottingham Forest.

Wisdom came through the ranks at Liverpool and was handed his first-team debut by Brendan Rodgers in 2012, before making a further 21 appearances for the Anfield club.
