Kevin De Bruyne has shed light on what his relationship with Jose Mourinho at Chelsea was like.

De Bruyne signed for Chelsea from Genk for a fee of £7 million in 2012 but he only made nine appearances in all competitions for the Blues.

The Belgian started a mere two games for the Blues, one of which was a League Cup game against Swindon - and was sold to Wolfsburg for a fee of £18 million two years later in one of Jose Mourinho's worst ever managerial decisions.

In Germany, he rebuilt his career, bagging assists and goals galore and prompting Manchester City to give him a second crack at English football in 2015, signing for a then club record £54 million.

The 26-year old has been a revelation ever since and after 7 goals and 15 assists in the league this term, he's up there with Mo Salah as the leading Player of the Season contenders.

When quizzed by Jermaine Jenas about his relationship with Mourinho, De Bruyne, not usually in regular dialogue with his managers, said it was "distant" and that he only spoke with the Portuguese boss twice.

"I would say, distant," he revealed on The Premier League Show.

"I'm not really somebody who speaks a lot with coaches. I think if the coach wants to speak with you, then you just do it. He's the boss, you can be good with each other but there's still a distance between a coach and a player.

"I only spoke with him twice, that's when I wanted to leave to Dortmund at the beginning of the summer and the second meeting I just said: 'For me it's better to go, I want to play football'."

KDB's performances this season under Pep Guardiola have been next level and there's plenty of people who believe he deserves to win the PFA Player of the Year.

De Bruyne, however, thinks 38-goal Salah should win the accolade and says he voted for the Egyptian.
