David Moyes Wanted To Bring Champions League Winner To Old Trafford

What a signing this would of been.

The former Manchester United manager has revealed he wanted to sign Toni Kroos during his brief spell at Old Trafford.

Kroos ended up leaving Bayern Munich for Real Madrid in 2014 penning a 6-year-contract, to the disappointment of Moyes. The then-manager was eyeing him up as the heir to Paul Scholes. The La Liga player is currently on international duty where he has completed 315 passes than any other player during the group stages.

Moyes was reviewing Joachim Low's sides progression in the Euro's where he admitted he wanted to draft the player in. Writing an article for The Sunday Times, he wrote;

"I wanted to bring Kroos to Manchester United, from Bayern. I thought his range of passing and his ability to play people in would have made him a top United player, maybe Scholes' heir. He's gone on and shown at Real Madrid what a fantastic footballer he is. Kroos is a special talent, probably the closest thing at this tournament to a Xabi Alonso, an Andrea Pirlo or Paul Scholes."

The 26-year-old has compiled 99 appearances since his big money move, scoring just the three goals but it's his playmaking in the middle of the park which has seen him heralded as one of the best midfielders in the world.

Moyes succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson but was sacked by the Premier League side in 2014 before taking a managerial job in Spain with Real Sociedad, though his poor start to the 2015/2016 season saw him get relieved of his duties. The 53-year-old is currently unemployed as he eyes up his next move.
