David Beckham Wants Gennaro Gattuso To Coach Inter Miami
Two-time Champions League winner and ex-AC Mlian hard man Gennaro Gattuso has emerged as a leading candidate to become Inter Miami's first coach, with David Beckham eyeing up a move for his former teammate.
Gattuso stepped down as AC Milan coach after missing out on Champions League qualification.
But he could return to management in the form of Inter Miami's vacancy. The Miami-based franchise are looking to appoint a manager ahead of playing their first competitive fixtures in March.
And the 41-year-old World Cup winner has been in serious discussions with his former teammate about taking charge of his MLS side, per Miami Herald.
Beckham and Gattuso were teammates in Italy between 2009 to 2010 during the England star's spell at the Rossoneri club.
Jorge Mas, one of four co-owners, says Inter Miami are hoping to appoint a coach with an "attacking style".
"We are trying to get someone who can also commit here for a period of time and leave his fingerprints on our team," he said.
"it's someone you're going to know who has coached before at the highest level and who has played at the highest level."
Mas also expects an English presence within the MLS team and the franchise have already had some conversations with English players.
"I think you will see if you look at our young signings, we've made substantial investments in them," he added.
"We're going to couple them with players who have played in Europe who are very well known.
"We've looked at some English players. We're having some conversations with some English players and we anticipate Inter Miami will have some English presence."
