Enigmatic striker Dani Osvaldo has made a surprise return to football.

The Argentine-born Italian is a bit of a journeyman in the game, having turned out for a total of 12 clubs in his career, including seven Italian sides.

He famously had a short and unsuccessful spell in the Premier League with Southampton under Mauricio Pochettino. Basically, he turned up, rinsed Vincent Kompany to score a worldie against Manchester City and then disappeared.

He was also fined £40,000 and hit with a three-match ban for his role in a touchline scrap against Newcastle, as well as being suspended for two weeks for a fight with teammate Jose Fonte in the same season.

The 32-year old had packed football in altogether after leaving Boca Juniors in January 2016 but has performed a u-turn, with Osvaldo now signing with Argentine third division side Talleres de Remedios de Escalada, his 13th club.

Osvaldo, who was capped 14 times for Italy, has been training with the club and has even featured in some friendly games.

As per Tyc Sports, via Football Italia, he will be available for selection next month. When he announced his retirement, the eccentric striker said he was focusing on his rock music career.

But, in addition to that, he also quit for beers and football.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, he said:

"I decided to quit at Boca, there was too much gossip. I couldn't go out, I was afraid of people. I couldn't do it anymore. I had offers from China and clubs in the Champions League, but I was detached."

"I was beginning to hate what I had always loved. Football deserves respect, and I prefer asado [Argentinian barbecue] and beer to money."

Welcome back to the beautiful game, Dani. You mad bastard.
