Crystal Palace are set to appoint Patrick Vieira as their new manager, according to stunning reports.

The Arsenal legend has reached an agreement in principle with the Premier League side - but the contract has yet to be signed, per the Athletic.

All parties involved expect the deal to go through with an official announcement imminent.

The report also states that the process of Vieira applying for a visa is underway in the hope that he will be able to take training next Monday.

Palace begin their preparations for the 2021/22 season next week, with the Selhurst Park club hoping the Frenchman will be in charge to oversee their first session of pre-season.

The Eagles have been on the hunt for a new manager following the departure of Roy Hodgson, who left his role at the club at the end of last season.

Vieira, 45, enjoyed a trophy-laden career at Arsenal, winning the league title three times - including the famous 'The Invincibles' season.

He called time on his glittering career in 2011 and has since taken managerial roles at New York City FC and, most recently, Ligue 1 outfit Nice.

He's been out of management since December 2020.

Vieira is currently working as an ITV pundit for Euro 2020.
