A key member of Cristiano Ronaldo's personal security team is a former MMA fighter with a 7-2 record.

Goncalo Salgado, hailing from Seixal on the outskirts of Lisbon, stands at 6 foot 2, weighs over 300lbs and was in the heavyweight division during his career.

He won his first five bouts before suffering his first defeat at the hands of Zilong Zhao at the X - Impact World Cup in 2007.

Salgado then got back on track with back-to-back wins over Frederic Sinistra and Akim Asinine but ended his career in defeat to Arsen Abdulkerimov (armbar submission) on an M-1 Global show in 2011.

After competing in Italy, South Korea, Belgium and Switzerland, finally calling it quits in 2014 following a bout with Michael Mendes being cancelled, Salgado moved into private security work and began accompanying Ronaldo to various events as his bodyguard.

He has been with on the pitch with CR7 after the 2018 Champions League final in Kiev, as well as various holidays and functions.

He was also with the five-time Ballon d'Or when he met UFC star Conor McGregor at his training base in the United States.

He regularly shows support for Ronaldo on his Instagram page and would appear to very much enjoy looking after the Juventus superstar.

And given his sheer size and combat sports experience, he's evidently more than equipped to protect him in any scenario.
