Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Ballon d'Or award for the fifth time in his career and has now moved level with rival Lionel Messi.

Here's Ronaldo collecting his award this evening:

The 32-year old superstar first claimed the prestigious individual accolade in 2008 when at Manchester United and went on to win it a further three times, in 2013, 2014 and 2016 respectively, after his world-record move to Real Madrid.

And after yet another special year, the Portuguese has scooped the gong for 2017. With a series of leaks, it's been common knowledge, for a while, that Ronaldo was going to be the recipient but France Football officially announced him as the winner, with Ronaldo collecting his award in Paris this evening.

Ronaldo's Ballon d'Or victory follows on from his FIFA Best Men's Player win and caps off a quite remarkable year for the Sporting CP youth product.

In 56 matches for Real Madrid in 2017, he netted 49 goals and contributed further with 13 assists in all competitions. The only player to have scored in every single Champions League group game, he struck twice in this year's final against Juventus in Cardiff as Real became the first team to win club football's most precious prize back-to-back.

'CR7' also won La Liga, the Spanish Super Cup and UEFA Super Cup and despite some struggles in the league this season, where he has only scored twice, he's still going strong.
