Cristiano Ronaldo Signals For VAR Check After Dive Against Morocco

He was the match-winner as Portugal picked up their first win of the tournament.

Cristiano Ronaldo produced an embarrassing dive and then followed it up by signalling for the referee to go to VAR during his side's 1-0 win over Morocco this afternoon.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner notched his fourth of the tournament four minutes in against the African side, ultimately knocking them out of the competition with a game to spare thanks to his bullet header.

Moreover, the goal saw him beat Ferenc Puskas' record of 84 international goals and become the highest European international goalscorer.

But the Portugal skipper was also guilty of a terrible bit of simulation late on as his side pushed on for a second goal. He fired a free-kick against the wall, rather than in the top bins like against Spain, and then on the rebound, hurled himself to the ground in hilarious fashion despite little, if any contact from Nordin Amrabat.

Replays showed just how bad the dive from Ronaldo was, but he made the incident all the more pathetic by trying to get VAR to look at it.

Twitter exploded with reaction to Ronaldo going all Tom Daley on us:

Somehow, the Real Madrid superstar wasn't responsible for the worst dive of the game. That went to his colleague, Pepe, who was patted on the back by Mehdi Benatia and went down as though he had been shot.
