Cristiano Ronaldo has been having sleepless nights, literally, the Portugal skipper hasn't been able to sleep since missing his penalty against Austria, according to manager Fernando Santos.

The 31-year-old had the chance to seal all three points in their second group encounter when they were awarded a penalty in the dying stages of the game, though he fluffed his lines nailing the post, leaving them in danger of missing out on qualification to the knock-out stages.

Sky Sport's Peter Smith also identifies that the three-time Ballon d'Or winner is struggling from the spot misplacing five last season, as well as his set-pieces where he has failed to convert a free-kick in 36 efforts, as summed up by this:

Via James Orr, Santos revealed that his miss has been heavily on his mind;

"Cristiano hasn't been able to sleep. On Sunday I was one of the first up and he was already awake. He's a winner and his experience will help him bounce back. If there is a penalty in the next game, Cristiano Ronaldo will take it and he will score. We played really well against Austria without scoring and we have to continue with this attitude. We made Austria, who are ranked 10th in the world, look like a small team."

Portugal have yet to find their form, nor has the Real Madrid frontman, though will be a dangerous proposition when they're firing on all cylinders. Ronaldo and Co take on Hungary in a crunch game on Wednesday afternoon, who'll also be attempting to make Euro and Portugal history by becoming the first player to score in four consecutive competitions, while increasing his all-time scorer tally.
