Cristiano Ronaldo is backing Khabib Nurmagomedov in next week's UFC 254 main event against Justin Gaethje.

The undefeated Dagestani fighter makes his long-awaited return in a huge UFC lightweight title unification bout on Fight Island.

It promises to be an exciting bout and Ronaldo was asked for his prediction by an MMA fan-page when he went on live on Instagram recently.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner met Khabib back in 2018 and presented the big Real Madrid fan with a shirt containing his name and Ronaldo's iconic number seven.

And he reckons 'The Eagle' will move to 29-0 in MMA when he comes up against interim champion Gaethje.

"Of course, of course, Khabib is going to win!" Ronaldo said.

"My brother! Inshallah!"

Khabib hasn't been in the Octagon since his win over Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 but remains as confident as ever and believes he will finish the bout in the third or fourth round.

"He's gonna be kickboxing and wrestling, like [a] mix, and my goal is to make him tired, he told BT Sport.

"I'm gonna make him tired and maybe in number three or round number four, my plan is to finish him."

31-year-old Khabib has become close friends with Ronaldo and even met his son Cristiano Jr, with the two sporting superstars exchanging gifts.

He's also gone on record to give advice to his fellow athlete, urging him to hang up his boots when the time is right despite Ronaldo showing no signs of slowing down aged 35.

"It doesn't matter if it's Cristiano or Khabib, people will come and take your place," he said at a media event in Russia for MMA promotion Global Fighting Championship.

"My advice to him, and to me as well, is to leave at the right time.

"I haven't taken advice from him about [training and fitness] because right now I feel good, and when I start to fall behind in some areas, I'll probably consult him.

"But for now, he's performing, I'm performing and we have no problems."
