Craig Bellamy's Take On Ederson-De Gea Debate Has Got People Talking

Debate galore...

Craig Bellamy's comments on David De Gea and Ederson have prompted plenty of discussion on the social media.

De Gea is on course to win his first ever Premier League Golden Gloves award having kept 21 clean sheets in all competitions and 17 in the league.

The Spain No.1 has regularly produced jaw-dropping saves and is widely considered to be the very best goalkeeper in world football at the moment. You wonder where United would be without him.

Bellamy showered praised on De Gea yet felt he had to pick Premier League newcomer Ederson, nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award, in his Team of the Season.

Having arrived from Benfica for around £35 million in the summer, the Brazilian has proven to be the perfect goalkeeper for Pep Guardiola's title-winners.

The 24-year old is ridiculously calm on the ball, and a commanding sweeper keeper always alert to danger.

His innate kicking ability gives City a devastating attacking outlet from deep and it's a huge surprise he hasn't recorded an assist yet.

But unlike Claudio Bravo last season, he's actually shown he is an excellent shotstopper - his side conceding one less goal than United in the league.

And former City favourite Bellamy opted for Ederson because of the new dimension to City's way of playing.

De Gea is an outstanding goalkeeper," the Welshman said on Sky Sports' The Debate.

"I love him, He's the one Manchester United player that would have got in that team for me.

"But I have to go Ederson. The transformation of what he's offered Man City has just been incredible.

"He's given them a new dimension. They look to play and he's just as good as anyone looking to play. Identifying one-on-ones up top and being able to clip balls and put teams in danger straight away just edged it for me.

"It was really really close, but due to his contribution towards the team, was enough for me to go towards him".

While Bellamy has explained his point pretty well, it still caused a bit of a stir on social media:
