Douglas Costa Comments On Seeing Red For Spitting At Federico Di Francesco

Douglas Costa has commented on his disgusting antics against Sassuolo on Sunday - apologising for his behaviour towards Federico Di Francesco.

In a crazy end to the 2-1 win at the Allianz Stadium, the former Bayern winger produced a poor tackle mere seconds before Sassuolo pulled one back in stoppage time.

And from then on the Brazilian completely lost his head to take the shine off Cristiano Ronaldo's first goals for the club.

He elbowed and raised his head to Di Francesco right in front of the referee, before spitting in the 24-year old's mouth in a truly vile act. With help from VAR, Costa was rightly shown a red card by the referee.

The 28-year old really let his team down with his horrible conduct and issued an apology on his official Instagram page.

"I want to apologise to all the Juventus fans for this over the top reaction I had during today's game," Costa began his post, as translated by Football Italia.

"I also apologise to my teammates, who are always by my side, in good and bad times. It was ugly, I am aware of that and I apologise to everyone for that.

"I want to make clear that this isolated conduct has nothing to do with what I've shown throughout my career."

What is particularly striking in the post, however, is the fact that Costa has not mentioned Di Francesco at all - only saying sorry to the fans and his teammates.

Given previous suspensions imposed on those who have hurled saliva at an opponent in football, Costa can expect a lengthy ban to come his way. His manager, Max Allegri has also confirmed he will be hit with a fine by the club.
