Christian Eriksen has provided a positive update from his hospital bed, following his collapse in Denmark's Euro 2020 opener against Finland.

Eriksen was given CPR on the pitch and taken to hospital, after collapsing at the end of the first half on Saturday evening.

The midfielder was confirmed as being conscious on the day, before the two sides later restarted the match, a decision that wasn't completely their own.

Eriksen initially gave a message through his agent to say that he was 'feeling better now,' and the Inter Milan midfielder has given a further update, on Instagram, calling for the players to play for "for all of Denmark."

"Hello everyone,

"Big thanks for your sweet and amazing greeting and messages from all around the world. It means a lot to me and my family.

"I'm fine - under the circumstances. I still have to go through some examinations at the hospital, but I feel okay.

"Now I will cheer on the boys on the Denmark team in the next matches. Play for all of Denmark, best Christian."

Fans initially feared the worst when the 29-year-old fell to the ground and the referee and medical staff were quick to react once teammates had notified them of Eriksen's condition.

Denmark captain Simon Kjaer was the hero who made sure that the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder hadn't swallowed his tongue and then began CPR before the medical team arrived on the scene.

The AC Milan defender's actions were trumpeted on social media, leading to fans of the club to call for him to be made captain at the San Siro. According to reports, manager Stefano Pioli is considering it.

Denmark went on to lose the game 1-0, just a couple of hours after Eriksen had been taken to hospital, with Finland claiming their first victory at a major tournament.

They next face Belgium on Thursday before taking on Russia in their final group game, at the same time as Finland lock horns with the side ranked number one in the world by FIFA, on Monday night.

Eriksen will be cheering them on from his hospital bed, no doubt.
