Chinese Super League Side Targeting City Stars

They mean business

The Chinese Super League has gained a whole host of elite players in the last couple of months and there's the potential for a few more to be joining the league.

Chinese outfit Beijing Guoan are being linked with moves for Manchester City stars and allegedly plan to raid Pep Guardiola's squad. Hefty wages and price tags are no problem for the Chinese top flight, potentially opening the door for big money moves for the likes of Yaya Toure, David Silva and Sergio Aguero.

City will be in China as part of their pre-season preparations, including illustrious friendlies against Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United - the latter game will be played in Beijing. In December the club announced that Chinese consortium CMC have invested £265m into the City Football Group project.

The Chinese Super League has emerged as one of the fastest growing in the world; Ramires, Hulk, Alex Teixeira, Jackson Martinez and Ezequiel Lavezzi are among the big names to have moved to China.

Eric Gao, founder of the International Champions Cup, says that China have the power to sign just about anybody and that Beijing have already identified several City stars.

Speaking to Agence France Presse, he said:

Beijing Guoan have drawn up a short list of top players from Manchester City who interest them. I cannot tell you any of their names as it would not be the opportune time to do so. In terms of the Premier League, there are no limits. Chinese clubs will pay players two or three times more than they are at present. The players would make more money at Chinese clubs.
