Edouard Mendy has publicly criticised the media outlets that used his picture in stories about Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy.

The Chelsea keeper, along with Real Madrid defender, Ferland, saw their faces plastered across English and French publications in their stories concerning the rape charges made against their City namesake.

He used a frame on his Instagram story to condemn the disgraceful case of mistaken identity, and the Senegal international believes the coverage showed the degree of racism that is still present across England and France.

'Sad to see in 2021, in France as well as in England, for some, black people have neither names nor distinct face," he said, in quotes published by the Metro.

"These 'mistakes' of photos appear anecdotal, but they are quite the opposite, they are highly symbolic.

"It's not that complicated to differentiate two faces, especially when the football jersey is of valuable help."

Ferland Mendy praised the Blues shot-stopper for speaking out on Twitter, and conveyed his anger regarding the sorry issue.

"Thank you Edouard Mendy! We are in 2021,' he said followed by three sad face emojis.

"STOP! It will take time but you will end up respecting us! Whether you like it or not", he added.

The 29-year-old Senegal keeper has been in fine form for Chelsea this season, with his 6 clean sheets in 10 Premier League appearances helping to propel the west London side to the top of the table.

He replicated those impressive displays in the Champions League too, keeping 3 clean sheets in 4 appearances to date, as Thomas Tuchel's side began their defence of the trophy.

The keeper has been a big hit since arriving at Stamford from Stade Rennais in September 2020, and already claimed a Champions League title and the UEFA Supercup since arriving in English football.
