Chelsea have decided to remove signs from the two entrances named after former players at Stamford Bridge.

Former Blues owner Ken Bates named two entrances after ex-Chelsea stars Nigel Spackman and David Speedie.

Spackman and Speedie played for the West London outfit during the 1980s as they helped them win the Second Division title in 1984.

They were the only two entrances at Stamford Bridge named after former players.

But the Premier League club have now decided to replace the names with directional and way-finding signage.

Reports say Chelsea sent Spackman and Speedie a letter notifying them of their decision.

Chelsea's decision to replace the two signs appears to be a popular move by their fans.

Spackman's relationship with Chelsea supporters turned bitter when he sided with Liverpool ahead of the Champions League semi-final clash in 2018.

He spent two years at Anfield in between spells with Chelsea.

As for Speedie, he was accused of making alleged racist comments during a speech in 2004.

The update to Stamford Bridge will be carried out while fans are not allowed inside the stadium amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Chelsea have not had supporters inside their ground since March 8 when they beat Everton 4-0 in the Premier League.
