The plane carrying the Chapecoense team that crashed over the Medellin countryside overnight, recently flew the Argentina national team to a World Cup qualifier in Brazil, according to a report in Spanish newspaper Sport.

Lionel Messi and co boarded the Lamia BAE-146 to Brazil just 20 days ago, en route to a 3-0 defeat in a crucial World Cup 2018 qualification match.

Sport quote unnamed local sources in their report and also state that the plane itself had only been in operation for 17 years.

It is believed the flight carrying the Brazilian team to their Copa Sudamerica final crashed in Cerro Gordo in the municipality of La Union due to a lack of fuel.

South American governing body CONMEBOL have suspended all footballing activities until further notice.
