Tragedy is greeting the football world this morning with the news that a plane carrying Brazilian team Chapecoense has crashed en route to Medellin, Colombia, killing all but six passengers on board.

One of the survivors was defender Alan Ruschel, currently on loan from Internacional. The 27-year-old had been sat next to goalkeeper Danilo, who also survived the crash. Miraculously, Ruschel arrived at hospital awake and talking, suffering multiple fractures, lacerations to the head and general head trauma.

Ruschel did not seem concerned with his own health, but with with questions about his family, when he arrived at the hospital, also asking for his wedding ring to be looked after, according to local reports. Ruschel's wife, Alissen, took to social media in the wake of the tragedy after discovering that her husband had survived.

Ruschel himself had been busy on social media before the plane took off, sharing images on his snapchat account, before the fatal crash tragically took so many of his teammates lives.

Our thoughts are with Alan and his family at this time as well as everyone associated with Chapecoense and the families and friends of the 76 passengers who so tragically lost their lives.
