Iker Casillas might not play football again after he suffered a heart attack in a training session with Porto.

The 37-year-old former Real Madrid shot-stopper was rushed to hospital on Wednesday and currently remains in 'stable' condition.

However, Marca reports that sources in Porto are suggesting the Spanish legend might 'not return to action and that his playing days are finished.'

Casillas signed a contract extension with his current club back in March, which keeps him at the Estádio do Dragão until 2020.

With the Spain international's health the most important thing right now, the Primeira Liga side have no intention of rushing him back to the pitch and putting him at risk.

"The work session was promptly interrupted to provide assistance to the Porto goalkeeper, who is currently at the Hospital CUF Porto. Casillas is well, stable and his heart problem [is] solved," Porto said in a statement on Wednesday.

Since the incident, footballers have flocked to social media to share their messages in support of the World Cup- and two-time European Championship-winning Spaniard.

In fact, Los Blancos also released a touching statement regarding Casillas, who played for the club for 16 years, made over 500 appearances and also served as captain for Madrid.

"Real Madrid wants to transmit all their support to their beloved captain Casillas," reads the statement.

"Casillas has taught us throughout his professional career to overcome the most incredible challenges to enhance the glory of our club.

"It has taught us that giving up does not fit into our philosophy of life and has shown us countless times that being stronger, the harder the challenge, is the way to achieve victory.

"Real Madrid want to see their eternal captain recovered as soon as possible and send him all the courage of the world."

Get well soon, Casillas. You legend!
