Calls For Gianluigi Buffon To Retire After Horrendous Mistake Against Sassuolo

Gianluigi Buffon has prompted fans to call for him to hang up his gloves after he made a horrific effort in the 2-2 draw with Sassuolo today.

Buffon was in between the sticks ahead Wojciech Szczęsny at the Allianz Stadium and conceded once in either half. The first saw him sat down by Jeremie Boga's naughty chipped finish but the second was an absolute disaster.

After some poor communication between Buffon and Matthijs de Ligt, the ball dropped kindly to Francesco Caputo just after half-time.

His finish looked tame but Buffon uncharacteristically made an absolute mess of it and spilled the ball into the net.

And the shocker of a mistake resulted in a lot of fans suggesting that the 41-year old retire from the game before he tarnishes his special legacy.

Buffon returned to the Bianconeri in the summer after one season with PSG and is just three games away from breaking Paulo Maldini's Serie A appearance record of 647.

But while he dreams of playing football until he's 80 years of age, the reality is that he's very much at the end of the cycle.
