Sporting CP star Bruno Fernandes is on the verge of completing a sensational transfer to Manchester United, according to stunning reports.

The 25-year-old Portuguese midfielder was heavily linked with the Red Devils last summer, but a move to Old Trafford failed to materialise.

But now United have reignited their interest in Fernandes and are close to landing the Portuguese star.

According to Sky Sports, United's deal with Sporting for Fernandes 'could be worth up to £60m.'

The Portugal international will reportedly complete his move to Old Trafford after his final appearance for Sporting.

The Portuguese club will be in action against Benfica in today's Primeira Liga derby in Lisbon.

United have splashed out £43m as part of the deal for Fernandes, which would include an additional £17m through various potential add-ons.

Sky Sports reports that the Sporting midfielder has 'agreed personal terms' with United and will pocket £120,000 a week at the Red Devils.

United reportedly wanted Fernandes not to be played in Sporting's clash with Benfica on Friday.

But Sporting and the United target insisted he played so that he could 'say a proper goodbye to the club and the supporters.'

United are keen to push the deal over the line as soon as possible ahead of their showdown with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

And Fernandes 'could even be in the stands' for United's upcoming clash with the Reds.

Fernandes' move to United would be the second-highest transfer for a Portuguese player leaving Sporting after Joao Felix completed his £107m move to Atletico Madrid last summer.

The Sporting star was previously linked with Tottenham and Manchester City.

Journalist Jonas Giaever also produced a comprehensive Twitter thread that spotlighted what Fernandes could bring to United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's United, who are fifth in the Premier League, will travel to Liverpool for a 4:30pm kick-off UK time.
