Liverpool fans, rejoice! Steven Gerrard has returned to Liverpool. The 36-year-old has taken up a full-time gig within the clubs academy.

After compiling over 700 appearances for his boy-hood club, he left the Premier League for the States where he enjoyed two seasons with LA Galaxy.

But after calling time on his professional playing career last year, Gerrard had been subject to intense speculation about what his future entailed.

With a return to Anfield muted. And it appears that has now finally come to fruition.

The iconic Liverpool midfielder will officially start his new role in February, and will be "operating in a wide-ranging role in the professional development phase of the young players" per Sky Sports.

Commenting on his first job since retiring, Gerrard said it feels like a complete circle from his playing days to now part of the backroom staff.

"It feels like completing the circle; returning to the place where professionally it all began."

Though the decision is purely a professional one; "However, this isn't a decision based on emotion - it's about what I can offer and contribute to Liverpool."

Welcome back, Stevie lad.
