For as long as Philippe Coutinho has been making a big impression in the Premier League there has been rumours of a move to Barcelona. But now the talented Brazilian has signed a new long term deal with the Reds.

The 23 year old attacking midfielder joined Liverpool in January 2013 for a paltry sum of 'just' £8.5 million, a fee that was a bargain then but is absolute pennies in today's market.

After a slow start to his career in England the Brazilian has been at the centre of everything great the Reds have done since and has bagged himself six goals already this season.

Recently the former Vasco da Gama youth player has been injured and only just made a return to the first team, an injury that, along with Sadio Mane's absence due to the African Cup of Nations, coincided with a dip in form for Jurgen Klopp's side.

However Liverpool fans don't need to worry about losing Coutinho in the long term as today he signed a new five year deal worth £150k-a-week:

Speaking about his new deal the Brazil international said: "I am very happy to sign a new contract here. It is a club that I am very grateful to and this shows my happiness here. I will work much harder to repay the belief shown in me.

"I signed this new contract to stay here for a few more years because it's a great honour for me."

Needless to say there's a lot of happy Liverpool fans:

There has been a lot of interested in Coutinho with Barcelona and PSG reportedly putting him on their wanted list for the summer.

Quite a few Barcelona players and Brazil players have made comments about thinking Coutinho should move to the Camp Nou but that doesn't seem likely right now.

The 24 year old's new deal reportedly doesn't include a release clause.

Do you think Liverpool can win the league with Coutinho in the next five years?
