The rumours had been swirling, but Borussia Dortmund have now officially sacked Peter Bosz as manager.

The 54-year old left his role at Ajax to take the reins at BVB, where he replaced the recently dismissed Thomas Tuchel in June.

But his team in Germany hasn't gone as planned and after underperforming domestically, as well as in the Champions League, where they didn't win a single game, Dortmund have given him the boot.

After the latest defeat, a 2-1 home defeat to Werder Bremen, which continued a wretched run of eight Bundesliga games without a win, he's been relieved of his duties, with Austrian Peter Stoger, formerly of Cologne, coming in until the end of the season.

After replacing Thomas Tuchel, who had been sacked following a breakdown in his relationship with the board, Bosz's tenure started in brilliant fashion, with Dortmund at the top of the table after seven games.

But the wheels came off and apart from a cup win over Magdeburg in the third tour, Dortmund have failed to win a game since September 30 and are now in seventh place in the Bundesliga, 13 points behind leaders Bayern.

The dismal defeat to Bremen yesterday, which was Werder's first away win of the campaign proved to be the final straw and ended Bosz's stint after just five months.
