Boca Juniors Unveil Grand Plans For Improved Bombonera

It's one of the world's most iconic and idolised stadiums, a cathedral for nearly 50,000 avid followers to worship in every week and now Boca Juniors' famous Bombonera stadium is set for an almighty upgrade.

One of Buenos Aires' most esteemed architect houses has been sworn in to oversee the project, which is due to boost the capacity of the stadium from 48,000 to 78,000, two thirds of which will be seated while another third will be dispersed behind each goal in standing sections.

There had been plans to build a new stadium from scratch, but the Boca board were keen to remain in the club's beloved neighbourhood of La Boca.
