West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic attempted to concentrate on the football last night as his team beat Chelsea in the EFL Cup and secured a quarter final against Manchester United. However violence in the crowd detracted from his team's win.
There has been trouble at West Ham's new ground, the London Stadium, in most of their fixtures at home this season in one guise or another. With London rivals Chelsea the visitors last night there were fears before the match that trouble could break out and extra policing was at hand.
Unfortunately that did not stop angry scenes between the two sets of fans with one Chelsea fan attempting to cross the divide and West Ham fans being accused of throwing coins at the visiting side.

It was all a mess and after the match Bilic condemned the scenes saying:
"I can say only I have noticed it of course, but the game was on and I was concentrating more on telling my defender Aaron Cresswell to watch the game, not what was happening off the pitch.
"I don't know exactly what happened, but we are totally against it as a club and a team. For those kind of things to happen in England is totally unacceptable."

A Chelsea spokesperson told The Sun, "The club is extremely disappointed to see the crowd disturbances at the end and we condemn such behaviour."

The violence was thought to start when Chelsea fans broke through the barrier and started fighting with Hammers fans. Riot police held fans back but they threw objects at each other with broken seats from the stands also reportedly thrown.
