Besiktas Fined £29,880 For A Cat Running On The Pitch During Game

Compared to other fines, it's a bit of a joke...

UEFA have confirmed that Besiktas have received a fine of 34,000 euros (£29,880) after a cat invaded the pitch in the club's 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League round of 16 second leg defeat at the Vodafone Arena in March.

In a truly incredible moment, the feline made its way onto the playing field and caused a temporary pause in proceedings in the second half.

And having failed to prevent the animal from doing so, along with some home supporters throwing objects and blocking stairways, Uefa's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body have taken action.

However, the real gripe from fans is that the fine sanctioned is £7,000 more than the fine Russia's football unionreceived from FIFA when their supporters were found guilty of racist chanting towards France players in a March friendly.

£22,000 for racial abuse and then issuing a higher amount for something as minor as a cat holding up play is a pretty shocking message to send out. It's unsurprisingly caused a huge stir on social media as it doesn't sit right:

UEFA and FIFA continue to be an absolute farce with their punishments and being honest, it doesn't look like changing anytime soon.
