Benoit Assou-Ekotto has responded to Harry Redknapp's claims that he intends to become a pornstar.

Redknapp spoke to the Spurs Show podcast on Friday and revealed that he wanted to sign former Tottenham defender Benoit-Assou Ekotto for current side Birmingham.

Initially things sounded pretty normal - after all Redknapp signing his former players is nothing new.

However, the 70-year old went onto claim that Ekotto wants to become a pornstar, which is proving to be a stumbling block in the deal.

Here's what he told Spurs Show podcast:

"The only trouble is that he's admitted he wants to be a pornstar. Maybe I can get another year out of him before he decides to do that.

"What a good player. He could well end up in the Birmingham colours next year, Benoit."

Ekotto and his alleged career plans instantly went viral, but the man himself has now responded to the reports that his old gaffer kicked off.

The Cameroonian says he has received requests to venture into adult films following Redknapp's comments but poured cold water on the story, saying that it's not something that interests him.

Speaking to France Football, the left-back said:

"A lady in England alerted me on Twitter at the time, it rather surprised me.

"From what I understood, it was in a show, Redknapp was asked about the players he would like to recruit. He talked about me, joked, and then he moved on.

"It made me laugh, but my mother discovered it this morning, Mother's Day. She told me she would have preferred another gift.

"It was just a joke, it's not bad. What's absurd is that we can take it seriously. As if I wanted to become a porn actor! It's far too taboo."

So there you have it. Even if he isn't particularly a fan of football, Assou-Ekotto isn't planning to go into the world of porn anytime soon, it seems.

Ekotto spent the final year of his Spurs contract on loan with Redknapp's QPR in the Championship.

He made a total of 202 appearances for Spurs during a nine year spell at White Hart Lane, but his time the club ended on bad terms.

The club eventually cancelled the contract of the Cameroon left-back in 2015 after being overlooked by manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Ekotto is currently a free agent after Ligue 1 side Metz decided not to offer him a new deal.
