BBC pundit and former Wales striker Dean Saunders is racking up quite the parking bill while he is out in France providing analysis on Euro 2016 games.

Prior to flying out to cover the tournament, Saunders left his vehicle at the short-stay car park at Birmingham Airport - expecting Wales to be heading home fairly early.

But Chris Coleman's men have defied the odds to become the only home nation side in the quarter finals - they take on Belgium in Lille on Friday. But it's come at the expense of Saunders, whose parking fines are said to be increasing by £100 every day. On Monday, the former Liverpool and Aston Villa player predicted that the owed fee was in the £1,000 region, but it continues to grow - prompting a crowdfunding campaign by Richard Jackson, who is the brother-in-law of Wales boss Chris Coleman.

According to the founder of the page, the JustGiving campaign has been set up "for a bit of fun" has has a target of £1,200.

Saunders gave his take on the situation. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, he said:

I tell you how confident I was with Wales. I parked in the short-stay car park at Birmingham Airport two weeks ago.

Richard Jackson hopes that the BBC will pay for the fines, and if they do, the money raised for the campaign would be invested into grassroots football.

He said:

It would only be a small profit, but anything commercial that bring money into grassroots football in this country is a positive thing. It needs some decent funding. Maybe this is a good way to raise awareness of that.

Former Doncaster and Wolves boss Saunders may be sweating over his bill, but he surely won't mind too much if Wales go all the way and win Euro 2016.
