Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has said he will not collect his wage while serving his four-month FIFA ban.

The 22-year-old was hit with a severe sanction over a breach of contract that occurred in 2011, not to mention being slapped with a 100,000 euros fine. As a result, he'll miss the remainder of the season.

The reason why Calhanoglu has had a ban imposed on him by FIFA and the CAS is in relation to the player having an agreement to sign with Trabzonspor in 2011.

Trabzonspor protested the decision and subsequently won the case preventing him playing from this season.

He was playing for German second tier side side Karlsruher SC at the time and ended up signing a new contract with his club before later moving to the Bundesliga with Hamburg.

(Bayer will be without the talented midfielder for the rest of the season.)

Speaking to the clubs website, he said; "Bayer 04 has nothing to do with the incidents at that time. The club was hit hard by the pronounced punishment both sportingly and economical sense."

While adding; "This is why it is self-evident to me that I will not harm the club any further and for the time of my exclusion from the game operation waive my salary."

Bayer currently sit 9th in the league while they host Atletico Madrid in a fortnight in the knockout out stages of the Champions League.
