Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been earmarked as a potential successor to Ronald Koeman as Barcelona manager.

That's according to Jordi Farre, who will be standing as a candidate in Barcelona's presidential elections in 2021.

Farre claims that Koeman, who was recently appointed Barcelona manager, could stay on as head coach should his managerial tenure 'work out.'

However, the presidential hopeful has made a bombshell claim that they have "already started several conversations" with Klopp and his representatives over a switch to the Camp Nou.

Farre told Spanish newspaper Sport: "If Koeman works and does well, he would be, of course.

"Obviously, we have our roadmap and we had already started several conversations with Jurgen Klopp because it seems to us that Barca need such a coach."

Koeman, 57, signed a two-year deal to become new Barcelona manager after Quique Setien was sacked.

The former Netherlands boss already faces a tough challenge in convincing Barcelona captain Lionel Messi to remain at the club amid uncertainty surrounding his future.

When he was asked about Koeman's appointment, Farre wished the new Barca boss the "best because the challenge [ahead] is huge."

He explained: "It is an exceptional moment and Koeman is a good solution considering that he is a legend of Barcelona, a benchmark.

"Because of his character, I think that was what the club needed now. I wish him the best because the challenge is huge."

Barcelona's underwhelming season saw the dismissal of Ernesto Valverde in January and the Spanish club failed to defend the La Liga title.

And the club's exit from the Champions League ended in complete humiliation after an astonishing 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.

Klopp, whose current deal expires in 2024, ended Liverpool's long wait for the Premier League title last season.
