A quite incredible opening 45 minutes in Lisbon...

Fans are only just catching their breath after Bayern Munich annihilated Barcelona in a crazy opening 45 minutes in Lisbon.

Whereas last night's Champions League quarter final between RB Leipzig and Atletico Madrid was a drab affair, this was anything but.

The tempo was set straight from the off and moments after Barcelona had a chance to go ahead when Sergi Roberto very nearly picked out Luis Suarez on the counter, Bayern took the lead in the third minute after a flowing move was finished by Thomas Muller.

Serge Gnabry started off the move, Ivan Perisic found Muller on the edge of the area with a smart cross before the German played a lovely one-two with Robert Lewandowski and slotted past his compatriot Marc-Andre Ter Stegen with his left foot.

The lead lasted just minutes when Jordi Alba was sent in behind the Bavarian side's backline and as he sought to find the onrushing Suarez, David Alaba clumsily put the ball in his net with his right foot.

There was only seven minutes on the clock and already you couldn't take your eyes off it. Suarez then saw a one-on-one effort saved by Manuel Neuer and Lionel Messi hit the post as Barca started to make waves in attack.

But by the 20th minute, Perisic had restored Bayern's advantage with an emphatic left-footed finish after a deft pass from Gnabry.

The former Arsenal man would then go one better by getting on the scoresheet himself - firing home Bayern's 150th goal of the season before Barca were again undone at the back and allowed Muller to make it 4-1 with his second in the 31st minute.

Five goals, chances galore, dodgy defending aplenty. We need a lie down after that...
