All is not well in the relationship between the manager and captain at Arsenal, after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was omitted from the squad to face Southampton due to a "disciplinary breach."

Mikel Arteta revealed the news in his pre-match interview ahead of the Saints clash, and follows reports that the Gunners skipper missed training yesterday.

The Spaniard did not state how long Aubameyang would be excluded from the squad, and was left frustrated at having to leave out his captain for such reasons.

"Unfortunately, due to a disciplinary breach. I think we have been very consistent that we have certain non-negotiables in the team that we have set ourselves as a club, and he's not involved today.

"It starts today. It's not an easy situation and we don't want our club captain to be in that situation."

Arteta has previously dismissed claims of a rift between himself and Aubameyang, but the Gabon striker is clearly having a tough time in north London.

The 32-year-old scored seven goals in 15 appearances across all competitions, but his last goal came in a 3-1 win over Aston Villa on 22nd October.

He also had a glaring miss after coming on from the bench in Monday night's 2-1 defeat away at Everton, as the Gunners slipped to seventh in the Premier League table.

Alexander Lacazette will lead the line for Arsenal this afternoon, while Eddie Nketiah provides additional attacking back-up on the bench.

As for Southampton, they head into the match without a win in each of their last four matches and currently sit 16th with 16 points from 15 games.

Previous history goes against Ralph Hasenhuttl's side from picking a win, as the Saints are winless in each of their previous 26 visits to Arsenal.

But whatever happens, Aubameyang won't be on the scoresheet today.
