The summer transfer window isn't even open but there's talk of Atletico Madrid having a bid turned down already.

That's because according to Il Messaggero, Atletico tabled a bid for Genoa striker Giovanni Simeone but it was rejected by the Serie A club.

Giovanni is of course the son of Atletico boss Diego Simeone and has made huge strides in his career this season.

He has netted 11 goals in 29 appearances, including a brace against league leaders Juventus.

His double against Max Allegri's side came 6084 days after his dad scored the winner for Lazio in a 1-0 win over the Old Lady in 2000.

In terms of the bid from Atleti, Genoa are said to have turned it down because they deem their prize asset to be worth upwards of €25m.

The 21-year old has also been linked with two other Spanish sides in Villarreal and Sevilla.

But he's even stated in the past that his desire is to play for Atletico Madrid.

"I would love to play for Atletico." He told Cadena Ser radio.

Diego experienced two spells at the Vicente Calderon amassing five years in the red and white side of Madrid before eventually becoming manager of Atletico.

Giovanni following his footsteps and playing under him would certainly be a special story.
