Assistant Referee Halts Portuguese Top Flight Game For Three Minutes To Go To The Loo

He desperately needed a toilet break...

A top-flight fixture in Portugal had to be stopped for a few minutes so that one of the assistant referees could nip out for a toilet break.

With Chaves leading Nacional 2-1 in the Primeira Liga game 10 minutes into the second half, linesman Jorge Cruz couldn't hold it in for any longer and simply had to do his business at the loo.

We're not sure whether it was a number one or number two but while a goalkeeper was preparing to take a goal kick, Cruz gave his flag to the referee and promptly wobbled down the tunnel.

While he was away at the bathroom, the players had a water break and gathered around their managers for tactic talks before Cruz returned from his trip.

He collected his trusty flag, was jokingly shown a red card by the man in the middle and wiped the sweat off his forehead to let everyone know he had successfully completed his task. With a fully functioning assistant ref manning the line, Chaves went on to score a further two goals to run out 4-1 winners.
