Marco Asensio Could Become One Of The Best Bargains In Football History

The Spaniard is different gravy...

I think I speak for most football fans when I say that Marco Asensio is a future Ballon d'Or winner in the making - and it's genuinely incredible how little Real Madrid paid to land his services.

Los Blancos are known for splashing the cash on big, marketable signings but one of their greatest ever additions cost them a mere €3.5 million euros from Real Mallorca.

Barcelona were reluctant to pay RCD Mallorca an extra couple of million for Asensio and there loss was Real's gain, as the Spaniard has transformed into one of the most exciting players in football - and a player who provides match-winning moments when it matters most.

Sent on as a half-time substitute for the underperforming Isco against Bayern Munich, Asensio bagged another crucial goal when he was slid through by Lucas Vazquez and coolly slotted home past Sven Ulreich in the 57th minute.

Seeing Asensio finish emphatically and then perform his trademark celebration has been a familiar sight ever since he burst onto the scene.

In scoring last night, he has now bettered his tally of 10 goals in all competitions last term and continued his knack of scoring when in big games.

The Spain international scored against Bayern at the Bernabeu in the quarter final second leg last season, got on the scoresheet in the final against Juventus in Cardiff - as well as nearly breaking the net with a worldie in either leg in the Spanish Super Cup against Barcelona at the start of this campaign.

Valencia and Sevilla have also felt the wrath of his wand of a left peg on more than occasion - the latter seeing a stunning curling effort fly into the top binsa against them in Asensio's first competitive appearance for Los Blancos.

Whether it's from the start or from the bench, Asensio always makes an impact in some way. At 22, he's already a special talent but you still get the feeling that he's got plenty of improving to do - which is pretty frightening to be honest.

Real handed him an extended contract until 2023 back in September, complete with an insane €700 million release clause that would even deter PSG.

He is the future of Real Madrid and one day we'll look back at the time the mighty Real Madrid paid a measly sum for a young scrawny kid from the Balearic Islands and he went on to achieve great things.
