AS Roma Fan Wakes Up From Coma After Video Message From Francesco Totti

A Roma fan has woken up from a coma after receiving a video message from the legendary Francesco Totti.

Ilenia Matilli, 19, was involved in a horrific accident whereby a car crashed into a tree while they were returning home from a night in the company of friends at 2am in the morning back in December.

Martina Oro, Ilenia's friend who was driving the vehicle, died instantly. Ilenia, a Roma supporter but a player with Lazio women for many years, was immediately taken in an air ambulance and transferred to Gemelli hospital in Rome.

After suffering a devastating head injury, she was placed in a coma for nine months. Her parents would regularly play her Roma's anthem at her bed in hospital and miraculously, a message from her idol Totti has seen her wake up.

'Il Capitano', who played the entirety of his career with Roma, told the girl: "Ilenia don't give up, you'll do it, we're all with you".

Her parents, understandably overjoyed, paid tribute to Totti. As per la Repubblica, they said: "Your fantastic voice, combined with the passion, the love that Ilenia has always had for Roma, have favored her awakening, the return of her smile so contagious that you can not do without, to its eyes full of light and joy ".

The family want to meet Totti in person to express their thanks. Ilenia is in the early stages of what will still be a long road to recovery but it is her wish to be able to embrace Rome's prodigal son.

"We look forward to seeing you, Ilenia is waiting for you", her parents added.

Totti performed miracles aplenty on the pitch for his beloved Giallorossi and even now in retirement, he continues to be the closest thing to God for Roma supporters.
